Calvince Ouko Othoo

Dr. Calvince is an environmental and climate change scientist passionate for participatory community climate resilience and sustainability. He holds a PhD in climate change and adaptation (2021) and master’s in environmental monitoring and analysis (2014). Othoo has competency in risk assessment and modelling, participatory techniques, modelling, and GIS. Calvince’s research and work experiences span over ten years working with various organizations including academia, government agencies, multilateral organizations, and non-State actors around environment and climate change.

In his present research fellowship program at the University of Nairobi, Calvince is involved in a high-level multidisciplinary research program component under the African Union Adaptation Accelerator programs (AAAP), a flagship continental program aligned to the African vision 2063 Vison of building resilience against climate and disaster risks and funded by the Global Centre on Adaptation (GCA).

In addition, Dr. Othoo has gained tremendous experience in sustainability-focused multidisciplinary research while involved in a global capacity building initiative under the One Planet Fellowship programs of the European Union and jointly implemented by the Agopolis Foundation (France) and the AWARD/ICRAF (Kenya). Moreover, Calvince’s has consulted for key research projects including PACDR (Participatory assessment of climate and disaster risk) assessment with diverse communities in Kenya.
