Josphat Mokaya
Josphat Mokaya is a certified ILO-SIYB Trainer, Mentor, and Coach with over 9 years of experience in empowering young entrepreneurs in the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector. He is also a UN Career in Climate Action Expert, driven by a deep passion for Community Development, Food Security, Ocean Conservation, and Climate Action. Josphat currently serves as the Programs Associate in charge of Business Development Services (BDS) at Capital Strategies Kenya Ltd where he has been involved in leading different BDS assignments for many organizations in Kenya and East Africa. He is also volunteering as the ECOP Africa Sub-regional Coordinator for East Africa.
His journey reflects a consistent commitment to promoting sustainable business growth and advancing ocean governance. Josphat’s passion for the Blue Economy is profound, he envisions an Africa where entrepreneurship and science converge to deliver sustainable ocean-based solutions. In September 2025, Josphat had the honour of attending pivotal conferences such the 13th WIOMSA Symposium in Mombasa where he took stage and he shared insights on Blue Economy Entrepreneurship and Innovation with the aim of inspiring Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOPs) to integrate scientific evidence into sustainable business solutions.
Additionally, Josphat continues to play a thought-leadership role in the climate change space in regional and global dialogues, including engagements at the Kenyan Parliament, the UN Ocean Decade Conference in Barcelona, Spain, and the FAO Headquarters in Rome, where he has contributed to shaping policies that promote resilience, sustainable entrepreneurship, climate action, and ocean governance.
Josphat is a graduate of the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Science in Rangeland Management. He is also an accomplished Research Consultant with extensive experience in leading field studies across. His curiosity for self-development and a drive for innovative business solutions, evidence-based climate action and ocean conservation position him as a leading voice for sustainable development in Africa’s development goals.
